The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office has announced that capital murder charges have been filed in the death of Jenny Bagby. Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reports that the incident occurred around 9:25 p.m. on July 27, 2024.
Deputies responded to the TimeMax convenience store at 16160 East IH-10 in the Cove area of Chambers County for reports of an aggravated robbery. At the scene, deputies found a store clerk, Jenny Bagby, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to Memorial Hermann where she succumbed to her injuries. Chambers County Sheriff’s Office Deputies began searching for the suspect using witness information. A short time later, deputies found the suspect’s vehicle and a pursuit ensued.
The driver, Todd Carter, was taken into custody. CCSO says Carter resides in the Houston area. Carter was booked into the Chambers County Jail for Capital Murder. He is being held without bond.
Detectives are working to see whether Carter can be linked to any crimes that occurred outside the jurisdiction.
