Two individuals were shot inside the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau earlier today. A person of interest is in custody. The Cape Girardeau Police Department is investigating the shooting. CGPD reports that it received multiple calls about gunfire inside the Show Me Center around 2:30 p.m. on May 19, 2024.
School Resource Officers were on the scene for a high school graduation and were able to detain a person of interest. They also rendered aid to two victims. CGPD officers and officers with other agencies responded to assist.
The two victims were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. CGPD says the person of interest is in custody at the Cape Girardeau Police Department. The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad has been activated to investigate.
