Cape Girardeau Police investigating double shooting at CVS Pharmacy

Update – The Cape Girardeau Police Department has announced that a 17-year-old female was deceased and a 53-year-old male suffered non-life-threatening injuries. On February 28, 2024, 20-year-old Tre’marion Jones was charged with felony murder in the first degree and more. Jones is being held on a no-bond warrant.

20-year-old Zhamius Smith was charged with hindering prosecution and resisting a lawful stop. Smith is also being held on a no-bond warrant. 21-year-old Yaunique Cain is charged with tampering with physical evidence and is being held on a no bond warrant. Investigators believe all suspects connected to his homicide are in custody.

Original Story – The Cape Girardeau Police Department is investigating a double shooting that occurred around 2:30 p.m. on February 27, 2024. CGPD received a report of shots fired and two victims struck near the CVS Pharmacy at 2161 William Street. Once officers reached the scene, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Later, CGPD and Bollinger County Major Case Squad announced it had identified a person of interest in this incident. Around 8 p.m., officers located a vehicle believed to be occupied by the suspect.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Woodbine and Themis, a pursuit ensued. Following a short pursuit, the vehicle stopped in the roadway near Pindwood and Whitener and three individuals fled. Two of the individuals were apprehended and taken into custody pending formal charges.
