Calgary Police have announced charges against one in connection to a shooting and extortion that happened in September in the community of Saddle Ridge. Around 8 a.m. on September 19, 2024, a man reportedly exited his residence and found two vehicles and the exterior of his residence damaged by apparent bullet holes.
The victim reported the incident to police leading to an investigation. Calgary Police believe that multiple shots were fired at the house from a passing vehicle around 2:20 a.m. that morning.
Four days later, the victim contacted investigators to say he had received threatening calls referring to the shooting and demanding a large amount of cash. Investigators say they identified two suspects using CCTV evidence and evidence left at the scene.
32-year-old Gursewak Singh is scheduled to appear in court on October 18, 2024. Charges are pending for a second suspect. Singh is charged with the following.
- Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- A Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Loaded, Restricted, or Prohibited Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Contrary to an Undertaking
- Property Damage over $5,000
- Extortion
