The Butte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal dog mauling that occurred on Thursday. Around 1:58 a.m. on August 8, a resident called BCSO to report a deceased individual on Blackhawk Trail.
Deputies responded to the scene where they found 56-year-old Davina Corbin of Feather Falls. BCSO says a forensic pathologist carried out an autopsy and found numerous bite marks and injuries on the victim’s body.
The pathologist concluded that the cause of death was attributed to a domestic dog attack. During an investigation, BCSO detectives obtained a search warrant for a residence on Blackhawk Trail in front of the area where Ms. Corbin was found.
Detectives found 25 Great Dane dogs. Butte County Animal Control responded to the scene. BCSO says deputies and detectives spent the day capturing the dogs that were running loose in the area.
Approximately 23 dogs have been captured and turned over to animal control to date. Two dogs are outstanding. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife received clothing worn by the victim. The test confirmed that the victim’s clothing was covered in DNA consistent with a domestic dog.
The lab is trying to determine which dog or dogs attacked the victim. The investigation is ongoing. BCSO believes Corbin lived in the area and was walking when she was attacked by the dog or dogs.
Anyone with information is asked to contact BCSO detectives at 530-538-7671 or Animal Control at 530-538-7322.
