Burbank Police arrest 44-year-old woman for allegedly impersonating a registered nurse

The Burbank Police Department is asking for information about a woman who was allegedly working at Los Angeles County Hospitals without a license. In May 2024, BPD says it received a report of a female who had allegedly impersonated a registered nurse at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Investigators say they managed to identify the suspect as 44-year-old Amanda Leeann Porter of Virginia. Authorities say Porter applied for and obtained the nursing position at Saint Joseph Medical Center.

She was allegedly oversaw around 60 patients that came under her care between April 8 and May 8, 2024. Police say hospital staff soon found out that Porter was impersonating a real registered nurse who lived out of the state.

By the time Porter was fired, she had received two paychecks. Police say Porter does not hold a nursing license and is on federal probation for a fraud violation committed in Virginia.

Detectives allege that Porter continued to obtain employment with various hospitals using false identities. On November 7, BPD arrested Porter after she bonded out of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s custody for a similar violation committed at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Santa Clarita.

Porter has been charged with Identity Theft, False Impersonation, and Grand Theft. She is being held without bail at the Los Angeles County Central Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.
