Bozeman Police arrests suspect in double stabbing on North 6th Avenue

Bozeman, Montana – The Bozeman Police Department is currently investigating a fatal stabbing. According to a BPD statement, officers responded to a reported stabbing around 4:15 a.m. on February 1, 2025.

Police say the reporting party informed dispatch that they were transporting the victim to Bozeman Health Deaconess Regional Medical Center. The victim was pronounced deceased.

BPD says its Detective Division has been investigating the stabbing, carrying out search warrants, and interviewing numerous parties.

Police believe an altercation occurred in the 500 block of North 6th Avenue and that Thomas Riley Wegley stabbed two victims. The second victim is in stable condition.

BPD says Wegley was taken into custody on charges of Deliberate Homicide and Attempted Deliberate Homicide. Wegley is being held at the Gallatin County Detention Center without bond.

BPD is searching for an individual who was walking their dog behind the RSVP Hotel around 4:10 a.m. and may have witnessed the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Ian Anderson at 406-582-2006 or Allison Killip at 406-582-2361.
