The Boonville Police Department has announced the arrests of a mother and a stepfather for allegedly leaving a two-year-old alone inside a locked room. BPD says its officers responded to a welfare check on Maple Street around 10:35 a.m. on Saturday.
Authorities say they received a report about a two-year-old being left alone inside a locked bedroom while the family was at a soccer game. BPD says officers knocked on the front door and checked the boarded window. The officers reportedly saw the toddler through the boarded window.
Authorities entered the home and found a naked toddler inside the locked room. BPD says its officers waited for the parents to return. Around 10:55 a.m., BPD says the parents drove past the residence and saw the officer and child outside.
The parents allegedly continued around the block and were followed by another officer. When the parents returned to the residence, they were detained. BPD says the mother, Autumn Brown, said she thought it would be okay to leave the child alone because she would only be gone for a short time.
The stepfather, Tyler Brown, was also detained. The reporting party allegedly said that the game started around 10 a.m. when they had asked where the child was. The child was taken into the custody of the Department of Child Services.
Autumn Brown and Tyler Brown are charged with Felony Neglect of a Dependent.
