The Birmingham Police Department is currently on the scene of homicide in the East Lake Community. BPD officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 8200 block of 4th Avenue around 12:19 a.m. on Friday.

At the scene, officers learned that the victim ran into a shed in the 300 block of 83rd Street North. Officers found the victim lying unresponsive inside the shed suffering from a gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene where they pronounced the victim deceased. BPD says the preliminary investigation indicates that the victim came to a residence in the 8200 block of 4th Avenue North.

At the residence, a verbal altercation occurred between the victim and the suspect possibly outside. At some point, the suspect shot the victim who fled to the 300 block of 83rd Street North where he collapsed inside the shed.

BPD confirms no one is in custody at this time.
