The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide in the 1100 block of Cotton Avenue Southwest. Around 7:44 p.m., West Precinct officers were responding to a call of a person shot. At the scene, responding officers entered a residence and observed a victim lying unresponsive from a gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue reached the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. BPD says the preliminary investigation suggests family had gathered for a barbecue. The suspect was also attending the barbecue. The suspect reportedly became angry and fired shots striking the victim.
Following the shooting, the suspect left the scene. No one is in custody at this time.
