The Birmingham Police Department is on the scene of a person shot suffering life-threatening injuries. Around 1:10 p.m., authorities received a Shot Spotter alert at 7701 5th Avenue North. East Precinct officers received an update that a person was shot inside a vehicle in the 500 block of Oporto Madrid Boulevard North.

At the scene, officers found an adult male lying unresponsive inside the vehicle. The victim was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire & Rescue personnel transported the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Based on the preliminary investigation, BPD believes the victim was in his vehicle at the intersection when an unknown vehicle pulled next to him.

An unknown suspect fired into the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene. BPD says no one is in custody at this time.
