Birmingham Police Department investigating homicide on Avenue P

The Birmingham Police Department is currently investigating a homicide. Around 5:20 p.m. on March 18, 2024, West Precinct officers responded to a Shot Spotter alert in the 1600 block of 27th Street Ensley. Responding officers observed an adult male lying unresponsive in the roadway in the 2700 block of Avenue P.

The victim was suffering at least one gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene before pronouncing the victim deceased. BPD says the preliminary investigation indicates that Shot Spotter was activated in the 1600 block of 27th Street Ensley. BPD believes the victim was shot in the 2700 block of Avenue P.

No one is in custody at this time. BPD says the shooting happened in a heavily populated area. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Birmingham Police Department at 205-254-1764.
