The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a shooting at a gas station at 900 20th Street in the Ensley community. Around 4:22 p.m. on March 27, 2024, BPD officers responded to a call of a person shot. At the scene, responding officers witnessed the victim on the ground unresponsive suffering from a gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire & Rescue responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Sergeant LaQuitta Wade said in a video statement that a second victim also arrived at the hospital by a private vehicle. The preliminary investigation indicates that an altercation occurred outside the Smart Food Mart which led to shots being fired.
No one is in custody at this time.
