Birmingham Police Department investigating after man fatally shoots brother on 17th Avenue North

The Birmingham Police Department is currently investigating a homicide following a trespassing call. In a video statement, Officer Truman Fitzgerald reported that BPD North Precinct officers responded to a trespassing call at a residence in the 3400 block of 17th Avenue North.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found an adult male lying unresponsive in the front yard of a residence. The man was suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire & Rescue responded to the scene before pronouncing the man deceased.

Based on the preliminary investigation, BPD believes that a domestic disturbance occurred at a residence between two brothers. During the disturbance, one brother shot the other. BPD says the shooter remained at the scene and was taken into custody.

Charges will depend on the outcome of the investigation. No other details are available at this time.
