The Birmingham Police Department has announced the arrest of a man following the discovery of human remains behind a residence. In September 2023, the BPD launched a Critical Missing Person investigation for Donald Cash after a loved one reported him missing from West Birmingham. On November 6, 2023, the Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Division and Tactical Operations Precinct personnel carried out a search warrant related to the case at 1437 Brighton Road.
During the search, investigators found what appeared to be human remains in the backyard. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office recovered the remains before the Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy that determined the victim had been shot.
On November 8, 2023, Birmingham detectives presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office and obtained a warrant for the victim’s son, 30-year-old Ledarius Cash. He was charged with Abuse of a Corpse. On December 27, 2023, Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates informed BPD detectives that the remains were 52-year-old Donald Cash.
A murder warrant was obtained for Ladrius Cash who remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail.
