Birmingham Police arrests suspect for capital murder in fatal shooting of Jaylan Lee Jenkins

The Birmingham Police Department has announced an arrest in the slaying of Jaylan Lee Jenkins who was fatally shot in the 4200 block of Jackson Street on April 9, 2024. Detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest. The suspect is only being identified as a 17-year-old male. The name is being withheld to protect Juvenile Rights.

On April 10, 2024, the 17-year-old suspect arrived at BPD Headquarters to turn himself in. On April 11, 2024, BPD detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. Following an assessment, detectives obtained a warrant for Capital Murder.

The juvenile is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
