Birmingham, Alabama – The Birmingham Police Department has announced the arrest of a sexual assault suspect. According to a BPD statement, detectives with BPD’s Special Victims Unit investigated a sexual assault case in West Birmingham on January 3, 2025.

Detectives say they identified 53-year-old Willie Sims as the suspect in the investigation. SVU detectives carried out a search warrant at a residence in West Birmingham related to the sexual assault case.

During the search, authorities claim they seized a large amount of drugs, including 2,719 grams of marijuana, four THC vape pens, 2,375 grams of cocaine, 34 grams of mushrooms, and more.

Authorities also say they seized more than $98,000 in US currency. Sims was arrested on a warrant for Sodomy 1st Degree. He is also charged with Trafficking in Marijuana, Trafficking in Cocaine, Trafficking in Amphetamines, and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Sims is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with a bond of $1,510,000.
