The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of 49-year-old Derrick Jermaine Berry around 2:34 p.m. on March 8, 2024. Berry was wanted in connection with the homicide of 44-year-old Tavores Maurice Pearson on January 16, 2024. On March 7, 2024, Berry was apprehended by the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Berry is facing a murder charge and does not have a bond. Around 9:25 p.m. on January 16, 2024, BCSO responded to a shooting incident in the 3200 block of Houston Avenue. At the scene, deputies found 44-year-old Tavores Maurice Pearson suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
