The Bend Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday. According to a BPD media release, officers responded to a report of a non-injury motor vehicle crash on the northbound Bend Parkway at milepost 136 around 8:17 p.m. on March 20, 2024. At the scene, multiple witnesses told responding officers that a vehicle had been driving recklessly and speeding nearly causing several other crashes.
Officers found the suspect vehicle and the driver at the scene. Around 8:30 p.m., a BPD officer fired his service weapon and used deadly force during an encounter with the driver. Officers immediately provided life-saving measures. The individual passed away.
