The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has announced an arrest in connection to a homicide that had possibly occurred earlier this week. BCSO says it began investigating a report of a homicide on August 30, 2024.

The investigation led to BCSO visiting an address in the Hilanda Drive Community in Burton. Authorities found the body of a deceased male subject. The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office determined that the subject had suffered a gunshot wound.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection to the murder. 36-year-old Erbert Francisco Vargas-Caballero is charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

33-year-old Edwin Martinez-Ruiz is charged with Accessory after the Fact of Murder. No other details are available at this time.
