The Baton Rouge Police Department announced it is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 2600 block of Washington Avenue around 11:50 a.m. on February 10, 2024. The victim of the shooting has been identified as 18-year-old David Atkins.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time, the motive is unknown. The shooting remains under investigation. BRPD said David Atkins was wanted by law enforcement for escaping from East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention on November 25, 2023.
