Update – The Baton Rouge Police Department is searching for a homicide suspect. BRPD detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating 35-year-old Josue Guevara Mejia.

BRPD investigators believe Mejia was involved in a homicide that occurred in the 1300 block of North Cristy Drive on June 29, 2024. The homicide claimed the life of 50-year-old Shelia Mitchell. Authorities say Mejia was seen fleeing the area in a white Ford van with LA Temp Tag # 13663651.

Mejia is wanted on charges of Second Degree Murder and Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.

 

Original – The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting on Saturday morning. BRPD reports that its Homicide Detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of 50-year-old Shelia Mitchell.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of North Cristy Drive for a female down inside a residence around 8:46 a.m. Officers found Mitchell suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At this time, the suspects and motive are not known.
