Baton Rouge Police Department arrests Darrius Howard in fatal shooting of Destiny Buckley and attempted murder of two others

The Baton Rouge Police Department has provided an update in a recent shooting. According to BRPD, Homicide Detectives arrested 23-year-old Darrius Howard for the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Destiny Buckley and the attempted murders of two surviving victims. The US Marshals Task Force apprehended Howard in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 6, 2024.

He was extradited to Baton Rouge and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison as a fugitive. BRPD Homicide Detectives charged Darrius Howard with 1st Degree Murder, Illegal Use of a Weapon, and two counts of Attempted 1st Degree Murder. The shooting happened around 3:44 a.m. on February 28, 2024 at 4842 Underwood Drive.

29-year-old Destiny Buckley succumbed to her injuries. Another female victim was shot and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The third female victim was shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
