The Omaha Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday evening. OPD reports that its officers responded to a domestic disturbance at 4315 Frances Street around 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday.
OPD says the initial 911 call reported that a man and woman could be heard physically fighting inside the building. Police say officers heard gunfire coming from inside a south-facing office and could hear a woman screaming from an interior closet.
Officers entered the building and located the office, according to authorities. OPD says its officers could still hear gunfire coming from the office closet. Officers opened the closet door just before two officers fired their service weapons.
Police say a woman was taken from the closet and transported to Nebraska Medicine with non-life-threatening injuries. A man was taken to Nebraska Medicine with extremely critical injuries, according to police.
Authorities say a handgun was found in the closet near the man. OPD confirms no officers were injured during the incident. Police say the man and woman were once involved in a domestic relationship.
