Austin Police identify shooter and victim of fatal shooting at Taste of Home Handmade Dumpling Restaurant

The Austin Police Department has identified the suspect and victim in a fatal shooting at the Taste of Home Handmade Dumpling Restaurant. APD reports that its officers responded to a robbery at the restaurant at 10901 North Lamar Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. on July 24, 2024.

The caller, identified as 51-year-old Hao Li, told authorities that someone had tried to rob him with a knife and he had shot the suspect. Li claimed the subject with the knife fled the area.

Robbery Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to the scene. APD says the investigation indicated that Li was a Mandarin speaker and had exited the restaurant when he saw Chup Prum on a bicycle.

Prum allegedly pulled out a knife and approached Li who pulled out a firearm and shot Prum. Then, Prum rode off on his bike and returned home. He was later transported to an area hospital where he passed away from a gunshot wound on July 28.

APD says no charges have been filed at this time. The case was staffed with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office on August 5.
