Aurora Police Department investigating armed carjacking that led to fatal two-vehicle crash

The Aurora Police Department is investigating an armed carjacking that led to a fatal two-vehicle crash. According to an APD social media post, officers are at the scene of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Dayton Street and 19th Avenue. Around 7 p.m. on March 17, 2024, officers responded to a report of an armed carjacking near 23rd Avenue and Dallas Street.

With help from the carjacking victim, officers managed to locate the stolen vehicle. Officers attempted to stop the suspect who fled in the stolen vehicle. At Dayton and 19th Avenue, the suspect collided with another vehicle killing the motorist.

The Traffic Investigation Unit with the Aurora Police Department is responding to the scene. The driver of the stolen vehicle has been detained. No additional details are available at this time.
