Asheville Police investigating gunfight late last night that left two dead

The Asheville Police Department has announced it is investigating a late-night gunfight that led to the deaths of two. Asheville Police Department officers responded to the 300 block of New Leicester Highway around 11:20 p.m. on December 22 in response to a shooting. At the scene, officers located a man who had been shot inside a business.

The victim was pronounced deceased. A half-hour after the first call, another call informed police that a person with a gunshot wound had been dropped off at Mission Hospital. That victim also succumbed to their injuries. The identities of these victims are being withheld at this time.

Criminal Investigation Division Detectives and Forensic Technicians are working into the morning to investigate the matter. A doctor with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is also on the scene.
