Arkansas State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Malvern

The Arkansas State Police says its Criminal Investigation Division is currently investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Friday.

According to ASP, the suspect was wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred earlier near the Hot Spring County Courthouse in Malvern.

APS reports that troopers located the suspect driving a 2016 AMC Acadia east on Moline Street and attempted to pull him over. The suspect reportedly fled at a high rate of speed.

Authorities say the suspect eventually drove through a Walgreens parking lot and onto West Page Avenue. A trooper performing a tactical vehicle intervention maneuver at the intersection of West Page and Vine Street.

APD says the suspect’s vehicle came to a rest after hitting a utility pole. The suspect was armed with an AR-style rifle and opened fire on law enforcement, according to police.

ASP Troopers and Malvern Police Department officers returned fire and fatally struck the suspect. The suspect was transported to a Little Rock Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The victim from the initial incident was treated at an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
