Ansonia, Connecticut – The Ansonia Police Department says it has arrested a man after his girlfriend was shot in the leg.

According to APD, Griffin Hospital reported to APD that they were treating a 27-year-old female for a gunshot wound to the leg on January 18, 2025.

Authorities say the victim reported that she was accidentally shot when her boyfriend was cleaning his gun at their home. At the time of the shooting, several other people were present in different areas of the home.

The victim was treated and released. APD says the boyfriend, 27-year-old Casey Barker, was arrested and charged with Assault Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment First Degree, and Unlawful Discharge.

Barker posted a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 12, 2025.
