The Roanoke Rapids Police Department has announced a 42-year-old local woman was arrested after being accused of stabbing her mother. RRPD reports that its officers responded to the 1300 block of Hamilton Street for a disturbance around 7:30 p.m. on July 23, 2024.

At the scene, officers learned that 42-year-old Angela Dorene Mitchum allegedly stabbed her mother in the face with a kitchen knife. RRPD claims that Mitchum broke into the residence of her mother having been told multiple times not to come to the residence.

Officers found Mitchum being restrained by a male subject while she was still holding the bloody knife. Mitchum allegedly refused to drop the knife despite being ordered to do so multiple times.

RRPD alleges that Mitchum became violent and resisted. She was eventually forcefully restrained and taken into custody. Mitchum has been charged with Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Felony Breaking and Entering to Terrorize, and Resisting a Public Officer.

Mitchum was booked with no bond. The victim’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
