The El Paso Police Department has announced that a son has been charged in the murder of his father. El Paso Police are conducting a murder investigation after an incident at a residence in East Yandell. Patrol officers with the Central Regional Command Center responded to a reported stabbing around 3:40 AM on December 2, 2023.

Once officers reached the scene, they found 55-year-old Alberto Javier Gallegos in critical condition. The victim was transported to the University Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. Detectives say the preliminary investigation revealed that the incident started as a domestic dispute that turned into a fatal physical altercation.

The son of the victim was detained at the scene and was later arrested and charged with murder. El Paso Police say this is the 31st murder case in the city in 2023 compared to 21 cases at the same time last year.

28-year-old Angel Javier Gallegos was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a warrant for murder. His bail has been set at $250,000.
