The American Canyon Police Department has announced the arrest of two suspects who allegedly stole a safe from a Wingstop. On January 3, 2024 around 7 a.m., ACPD received a report of a glass break alarm call at the Wingstop. Once police responded to the scene, they witnessed that the business had been burglarized and the safe had been stolen.
Officers used video to obtain information about the suspects and the vehicle they were driving. Neighboring law enforcement agencies were informed that the suspects were driving a U-Haul. Just after 9 a.m., the Fairfield Police Department found the U-Haul truck and the suspects in the 2000 block of North Texas Street.
Two suspects were detained. They have been identified as 44-year-old Christopher Kelley and 38-year-old John Scharff. Police say they found the stolen safe and evidence from the burglary in the back of the U-Haul as well as stolen paychecks from another burglary in the City of Davis. The suspects had cash from the safe in their pockets.
Kelley and Scharff were arrested on several felony charges, including commercial burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and conspiracy.
