Alyssa Jane Venable in custody following pursuit in Steuben County NY

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Alyssa Jane Venable has been taken into custody following a vehicle pursuit on I-86 in Steuben County, New York. Around 5:45 p.m., New York State Police troopers witnessed a gray 2009 Honda Civic matching the description of the vehicle Venable was known to drive.

Troopers attempted a traffic stop but the driver refused. The pursuit reached speeds over 100 MPH. At some point, authorities managed to use a tire deflation device. Venable’s vehicle crashed before she was taken into custody without incident.

SCSO says arrangements for extradition will be forthcoming. Venable was wanted in a triple homicide. The victims have been identified as 77-year-old Robert John McGuire, 60-year-old Gregory Scott Powell, and 65-year-old Carol Ann Reese.

The victims were found around 10 p.m. on June 4, 2024 when deputies responded to a residence on White Street Court for a welfare check. The victims suffered upper body trauma. Venable was wanted on three counts of 2nd Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
