Allegheny County Police investigating after bicyclist electrocuted on trail near Olympia Grove

The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to a request for assistance in North Park. Around 8:22 p.m. on June 18, County 911 received a report of a bicyclist who appeared to strike downed power lines along a trail near Olympia Grove in North Park.

First responders found the man down among live wires. They were not able to access the victim until Duquesne Light responded to the area and cut the power around 10:30 p.m. The adult male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

ACPD says the preliminary information indicates that County 911 was notified of a report of wires down and smoking on the trail around 8:40 a.m. ACPD, EMS, and parks maintenance responded to the area. It was determined that the wires belonged to Duquesne Light.

The company was contacted at 8:51 a.m. County Police and Fire Officials closed the trail and placed caution tape near the area where the wires crossed the trail. ACPD says caution tape was also placed at the main entrance of the trail at Olympia Grove.
