The Allegheny County Police Department is currently searching for a Wilkinsburg man in connection to a shooting in Homestead. According to a social media post from ACPD, County 911 was informed of a shooting in the 1000 block of West Street around 4:20 a.m. on January 17, 2024.
At the scene, first responders found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the back. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition. The Police Department’s General Investigations Unit responded to initiate an investigation. Detectives with ACPD say a man broke into a residence on West Street by kicking in the side door.
The suspect became involved in an altercation with the victim. At some point during the altercation, a single gunshot was fired hitting the victim in the back. Detectives say they were able to identify the suspect as 60-year-old Evan Hughes through witness interviews and surveillance video.
Hughes will face multiple charges, including burglary and aggravated assault. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should contact the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
