Allegheny County Police Department arrests James Beasley in Facebook Marketplace robbery

Allegheny County Police have announced that a 16-year-old had been arrested following an armed robbery in Mt. Oliver. According to a social media post from the Allegheny County Police Department, Mt. Oliver Police requested assistance from the Allegheny County Police Department’s General Investigations Unit for an armed robbery in the 700 block of Hays Avenue just before 1 p.m. on December 18, 2023.

Detectives say the victim traveled to the area to sell a custom-built PC after the sale was initiated on Facebook Marketplace. The victim informed detectives that three males arrived, displayed a firearm, and forcibly stole the computer before fleeing. While investigating, detectives spotted five individuals in dark clothing exiting a nearby residence.

Some matched the description of the suspects from this robbery and a previous armed robbery in the area. When detectives approached the suspects, a foot pursuit ensued. A short time later, 16-year-old James Beasley was taken into custody. Detectives say they determined that Beasley was the one who displayed a firearm during the robbery.

After a search warrant was obtained, detectives recovered the stolen computer and other items from Beasley’s residence. Beasley is being charged as an adult. He is facing multiple charges, including robbery and illegal possession of a firearm by a minor. A second male juvenile was taken into custody and released. No charges have been filed at this time.
