The Bogalusa Police Department has announced that the alleged Sunset Acres shooter is now in custody. Around 4:30 p.m. on December 19, 2023, Bogalusa Police Department officers responded to the Sunset Acres apartment complex in response to a shooting. Once officers reached the scene, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the facial region.

Officers provided medical aid until Northshore EMS and BFD reached the scene. Officers started processing the scene and gathering information from multiple individuals. During the investigation, authorities say they identified 23-year-old Kennis Loper as the suspect in the shooting.

Officers located and arrested Loper at a residence on the southern side of the parish. Police say additional details will be released at a later time.
