In the Carlisle Borough, a man has been arrested for public drunkenness and endangering the welfare of children. It is alleged that the man was drunk when he allowed a 14-year-old to drive his pickup truck.
The Carlisle Police Department says its officers responded to the area of North College Street and B Street for a report of a reckless driver on May 19, 2024. The caller witnessed a white pickup truck leave the roadway into a ditch.
The vehicle then backed up and drove north over the sidewalk while hitting multiple cones. Officers arrived at the scene and found the truck stopped at a stop sign at North College Street and G Street.
CPD says the driver was identified as a 14-year-old boy. The front passenger has been identified as 39-year-old Jonathan Storms. CPD alleges Storms was intoxicated and claimed he was teaching a family member how to drive.
Officers reported noticing an odor of alcohol on Storms as well as slurred speech. When a ride arrived to pick up Storms, he was advised to leave the vehicle and get it in the morning. CPD says he returned to the scene to get his vehicle roughly ten minutes later.
CPD confronted Storms again and informed him to call his ride or walk home. CPD claims Storms walked half a block down the road before entering the middle of the street and dancing in the roadway.
Storms was taken into custody. He is charged with Endangering the Welfare of Children, Corruption of Minors, Public Drunkenness, and Permitting Unlicensed Driver.
