Albuquerque Police Department shoots suspect outside Walmart on Wyoming Boulevard

The Albuquerque Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting earlier today. According to APD Chief Harold Medina, officers were looking for a female involved in several armed robberies. Officers located the female with a male who had a misdemeanor warrant. At the Walmart, the female and male became separated.

Officers took the female into custody without incident. Detectives waited for the male suspect to exit the store. When the male suspect exited the store, officers confronted him and gave him orders. Chief Medina explained that the male suspect grabbed ahold of one of the officer’s rifles and began discharging it during a struggle.

Multiple rounds were discharged. At some point, multiple officers fired their weapons fatally striking the male subject. Chief Medina claimed the female suspect admitted that the male was the getaway driver in the recent armed robberies. APD will be on scene throughout the day carrying out the investigation.
