The Albany Police Department has identified the victim of Monday morning’s suspicious death as 41-year-old Donnell Lewis. Around 5:10 a.m., APD officers responded to the area of Commerce Avenue and North Manning Boulevard for reports of an individual in the roadway.
At the scene, responding officers found Lewis face down and unresponsive. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. APD detectives say it was determined that Lewis and the suspect were inside the vehicle near Terminal Street and Commerce Avenue.
During a confrontation, the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the neck killing him. The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle which was located found near Sherman Street and Quail Street.
APD detectives say they identified the suspect as 33-year-old Ashley Mowatt who has since been taken into custody. Mowatt was booked on one count of Manslaughter 1st and three counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence.
