The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred this afternoon. Around 4:30 p.m., deputies responded to the Eastwood Meadows Apartments at 918 Southeast 44th Street in Gainesville after receiving multiple calls from residents of hearing gunfire.

Callers informed authorities that there was a dark-colored sedan near the mailboxes and a subject slumped inside. At the scene, responding deputies found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. No additional details are available at this time.
