The DC Metropolitan Police Department has announced an arrest in connection to a murder that occurred earlier this month. Around 2:30 p.m. on July 13, 2024, Sixth District officers responded to a report of an unconscious person in the park area near the 3300 block of Fort DuPont Drive Southeast.

A female victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. MPD later identified the victim as 21-year-old Ambria Farmer of District Heights, Maryland.

On July 31, 2024, Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force members arrested 23-year-old Desmond Barr Jr. of Northeast DC. Barr was booked on a charge of Second Degree Murder While Armed. Detectives believe the murder was domestic in nature.
