The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating an apparent drive-by shooting that claimed the life of a teenager. CCSO reports that it received multiple 911 calls around 9 p.m. about the sound of gunshots in the area.
A short time later, another caller reported that someone had been shot in the 3200 block of Northeast Excelsior Street. Deputies found a juvenile male victim who was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
CCSO says detectives are speaking to witnesses and gathering evidence. The Kansas City Police Crime Scene Investigations Unit is helping process the scene. It is believed a drive-by shooting occurred.
Investigators have identified a suspect vehicle which appears to be a dark blue or black 1996 to 1998 Chevy Silverado Z71 with the driver’s side headlight out.
Authorities have released video of the vehicle in question. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 816-474-TIPS.
