Following a four-day jury trial, William R. Wolfe Jr. was found guilty of the murder of Clarence “Bob” Clark. The Douglas County jury deliberated for nearly two hours before returning guilty verdicts on all ten counts.
The case was prosecuted by Douglas County Prosecutor Matthew Weatherman. The case began in September 2020 when authorities received a call about the victim Clarence “Bob” Clark.
Deputies responded and found Clark deceased in his bed from multiple gunshot wounds. Sheriff Chris Degase responded to the scene. On the way, Degase encountered the defendant, William R. Wolfe Jr., who was driving the victim’s truck.
The defendant refused to stop leading to a police pursuit. The Sheriff eventually terminated the pursuit as it was not safe. Wolfe was arrested the following day after crashing the truck. Authorities say Wolfe attempted to create an alibi defense which led to the discovery of the murder weapon.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab tied the weapon to a shell casing recovered from the scene of the time. Authorities say Wolfe has a lengthy criminal record including multiple prison sentences.
Wolfe will be sentenced at 9 a.m. on October 8, 2024.
