The Moorhead Police Department has announced an arrest in connection to the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Franky Torres on July 25, 2024. MPD reports that 35-year-old Jamal Ahmed has been arrested in the shooting.

Around 3:20 a.m. on July 25, 2024, MPD officers responded to the 900 block of 18 Street South for a reported shooting. At the scene, responding officers found a male victim. The victim was transported to an area hospital with a critical head injury.

Torres remained in the hospital until he succumbed to his injuries. MPD says Torres and Ahmed were present with mutual acquaintances during the incident. Authorities located Ahmed and detained him without incident.

The weapon has not been recovered. Ahmed is being held at the Clay County Correctional Facility on a long-form complaint for Felony Secondary Degree Murder charges.
