One person is dead and another is in custody following a failed burglary attempted in Longview, Texas. The Longview Police Department reports that its officers responded to a residential burglary in progress in the 1400 block of Mahlow Drive around 2:20 a.m. on July 24, 2024.

At the scene, officers found a 17-year-old male inside the residence suffering from life-threatening injuries. The male was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. LPD alleges that the suspect had unlawfully entered the home.

A short time later, officers were informed that a juvenile arrived at an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. LPD alleges the juvenile was associated with the burglary attempted on Mahlow Drive.

After receiving treatment, the juvenile was detained at the Gregg County Juvenile Detention Center.
