A would-be burglar is in critical condition after being shot by his victim. The Tulsa Police Department reports that its officers responded to a shooting at a residence near 24th and Sheridan around 2:30 a.m. on July 22, 2024.
The homeowner reported that he and his wife woke up to noises coming from their back door. When the homeowner went to investigate, he found a burglar in his kitchen. TPD says the homeowner did not recognize the intruder and he did not have permission to be inside the residence.
The homeowner fired his gun at the suspect who fled the residence with stolen items. The suspect made it to the backyard before collapsing due to a gunshot wound injury. The homeowners called 911.
At the scene, officers found the suspect in the backyard with loot, burglary tools, and a gunshot wound. The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he is in critical condition.
No charges are being filed against the homeowner at this time.
