The Purcell Police Department has arrested Ricardo Campaner. PPD reports that an officer was patrolling near the 1500 block of South Green Avenue around 10:52 p.m. on July 21, 2024.
The officer witnessed a white Chevy Avalanche traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer allegedly observed the vehicle traveling 68 mph in a 45 mph zone. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver accelerated leading to a pursuit.
PPD says the suspect vehicle ran a red light at Wyatt Road and reached speeds of 90 mph. The suspect vehicle collided with the center median curb near the intersection of Jackson Street and North Green Avenue but continued to evade.
The suspect hit another vehicle from behind near West Lincoln Street causing it to roll into a ditch. The suspect vehicle continued through the light before finally crashing into a ditch on the east side of the roadway.
PPD alleges that the driver, Ricardo Campaner, fled on foot before being apprehended by officers. Campaner is charged with DUI, Felony Eluding, Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident Causing an Accident while Attempting to Elude an Officer Resulting in Great Bodily Injury, and Reckless Driving.
The victim driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
