Greensboro Police provide update on city’s 21st homicide of the year

The Greensboro Police Department is investigating the city’s 21st homicide of the year. GPD reports that its officers responded to a reported shooting near the intersection of East Market Street and Laurel Street around 1:07 a.m. on July 22, 2024.

The caller informed dispatch that a drive-by shooting had occurred at the location and two people were injured. At the scene, responding officers found a vehicle in the roadway on East Market Street and two victims inside.

31-year-old Rachaud Polite succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. A 39-year-old male victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives have yet to identify a motive for the shooting.
