Knoxville Police investigating shooting at Summit Hill Drive Shell

Update 2 – The Knoxville Police Department said on social media that 20-year-old Robert Steed is now in custody. Detectives were trying to locate Steed who was wanted for Aggravated Assault and Reckless Endangerment.

The case stems from a shooting that occurred at the Shell gas station on Summit Hill Drive on July 20, 2024. KPD alleges that Steed fired multiple rounds at the Shell gas station. He was also shot during the incident.

Steed is also accused of firing at least one round at a home on Hazen Street earlier on the same morning.

 

Update – Knoxville Police have announced a charge of Aggravated Assault against 23-year-old Dereke Upton in this shooting. Communication Engagement Response Team members located Upton at his residence on Laurans Avenue and took him into custody.

Original – The Knoxville Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred on Saturday afternoon. KPD reports that its detectives are investigating a shooting in the parking lot of the Shell store on Summit Hill Drive.

The preliminary information indicates that two men got into an altercation and shots were fired. One of the men suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to the UT Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect left the scene before officers arrived. No other details are available at this time.
